Big response to bequest consultation
Manx National Heritage (Manx Museum and National Trust) has received an overwhelming response to its request for ideas as to how to spend a £1 million bequest from former Isle of Man resident Donny Collister.
Donny Collister was a master painter, who had served during the Second World War. He died in 2007, aged 93, leaving an estimated £1 million to the Trust.
The Trust launched a consultation in April, inviting comment from individuals, groups or organisations on options, projects and activities falling within the remit of the Manx Museum and National Trust, which could be partly or wholly funded by the generous bequest.
The organisation received 112 responses in all.
“We would like to extend our thanks to all those who responded to the consultation, which attracted a wide range of responses,” said Edmund Southworth, Director of Manx National Heritage. “Several common themes emerged including the display of Mr Collister’s personal possessions in a military museum context, support of the local community heritage and associated events in Colby and Arbory, and support for traditional skills.”
“We will now be looking at how we can accommodate the suggestions received,” he said.
